Skin Care: A Guide for Preventing Frown Lines at Any Age

The May issue of InStyle Magazine offers its readers a guide to preventing and treating wrinkles. Dr. Simon Ourian of Epione Medical Corporation comments on the magazine’s guidelines and offers his own recommendations for wrinkle prevention and treatment.

Beverly Hills, CA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 04/24/2014 -- According to the May issue of InStyle Magazine, moody moments and deep thinking can leave their marks on the skin. Most people will develop frown lines in between their eyes at some point in their lives. The magazine offers some tips for preventing frown lines from developing for those in their 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's. (see goo.gl/OP7ly4)

Scowl lines will probably be short-lived in one’s 20’s. However, it is important to note that repeated frowning and sun exposure can eventually cause damage. In order to prevent frown lines from developing one needs to put on sunscreen to protect the skin’s collagen and elastin from the effects of ultraviolet rays. An antioxidant-rich serum containing argan oil may make the skin more supple and help prevent wrinkles.

“In your 30’s, one could possibly see frown lines developing in between the brows,” says Dr. Simon Ourian, Medical Director of Epione Beverly Hills. “This is largely dependent on how much time one spends in the sun and one’s genetic makeup. Applying sunscreen and a vitamin-rich antioxidant serum are excellent preventative measures. Vitamin-packed formulas help stimulate collagen production. Cell turnover has a tendency to decline as you get older. Vitamin-packed formulas also help slow down the decline of cell turnover. Additionally, you may need to apply an over-the-counter retinoid at night. This will help maintain the skin's plumpness and prevent the frown lines from sinking in. It will also help maintain elastic recoil.”

According to the InStyle report, creases may become more noticeable in one’s 40’s. This is especially true if one has not been using sunscreen, defensive antioxidants, and retinol. At this point, it may be necessary to upgrade to a prescription-strength retinoid. Adding a cream rich in peptides and antioxidants may also yield benefits.

“Most people may not realize that Botox injections can be used for preventative purposes as well as for treating existing wrinkles,” says Dr. Ourian. “At Epione, we offer multiple treatment options, including the Coolaser laser skin resurfacing technique to address wrinkles and fine lines.”
