At present, we can get data from many controllers and sensors as well as from various other pieces of manufacturing equipment, but the adoption is moving much slower than it should. “The current sets of standards are incomplete and leave much of the application layers unaddressed…this must be the focus of a standards body. The application layer will allow companies to leverage analytical results and provide additional value by integrating information into other systems like factory planning as well as ERP and PLM systems,” noted Sobel.
