The IRONMAN Foundation Lends a Hand to the Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue Team

Tahoe Vista, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/26/2014 -- The Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue Team, Inc. a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer organization receives a 2014 IRONMAN Foundation Community Fund Grant.

The Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue Team today announces The IRONMAN Foundation has chosen them for a 2014 IRONMAN Community Fund Grant.

“It’s through generous donations such as The IRONMAN Foundation Grant that TNSAR (Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue) can continue to serve the Lake Tahoe region and beyond when people get lost or injured in the backcountry,” said Chris McConnell, President, Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue.

“We strive to leave a lasting legacy in IRONMAN race communities by giving back to organizations that make an impact locally through our grant funding process,” said Betsy Langan, Community Relations Manager for The IRONMAN Foundation. “The IRONMAN Foundation received applications from a range of outstanding non-profit organizations, and we are thrilled to be able to provide support for the Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue team that volunteers in a time of need and makes a difference in and around the Lake Tahoe community.”

“Our primary mission to conduct fast, safe rescues and educate the public on winter safety is aided significantly by The IRONMAN Community Fund Grant. In our 39-year history we have rescued over 500 individuals and responded to over 300 calls for help. TNSAR owes IRONMAN a huge thank you for their financial support and recognition of the team’s work,” said Chris McConnell, President, Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue.

About Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue
The Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue team was conceived in 1976 as a response to the death of a boy lost off the backside of Northstar-At-Tahoe ski area during a blizzard. There was, at the time, no organized backcountry ski team to help search for the boy. Desperate phone calls to some local Nordic skiers produced a search party that eventually located the youth, but only after it was too late. This group of skiers, along with the boy's father, who today still remains on the Nordic team, learned there was an important void to be filled. Thus, the Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue Team was born. 39 years later the all-volunteer non-profit team has rescued over 500 individuals and responded to over 300 calls for help. Based in the North Lake Tahoe/Truckee area, the Team has matured considerably after these many years but the goals remain the same: Conducting fast, safe rescues and educating the public on winter safety.
