Tyne Darling Pours His Heart and Soul Into Upcoming EP, These Ghosts

Acclaimed folk artist Tyne Darling is set to release his sophomore effort, These Ghosts, and will have his track “Punk Rock Girls” featured on WiFi PR Group’s compilation, Indie Anthems Vol. 4, to be released at SXSW in March 2014.

Las Vegas, NV -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/16/2014 -- A highly anticipated follow up to his recording debut, These Ghosts will be Tyne Darling’s next statement as to his talents and grasp of the fundamentals and intricacies of phenomenal folk rock. Based in Milwaukee, Wisc., Tyne Darling has been performing his heart out while lending soul and spirit to the music that has propelled him to early successes.

Tyne Darling can refer to both the solo musician and the band depending on the gig. Tom Vollman is the voice and face of Tyne Darling and can be heard on vocals, guitars and keyboards. He performs both solo and with a band, which includes Chris Dorch on guitars and pedal steel, Bob Berry on bass and piano and Ted Fleming on drums. While Vollman is able to carry the shows himself, delivering soulful acoustic performances, he also excels with his band, and they take his inspiration and flesh it out with still more textures and talents.

Most often compared to Bruce Springsteen, Lucero and John Mellencamp, Tyne Darling also draws musical influences from Greg Dulli, The Weakerthans, Matthew Ryan and Richmond Fontaine. For inspiration for his deep, emotive material, he often looks to poet Langston Hughes, fiction writers Raymond Carver and Joan Didion and artist Ryan McGinley.

What Tyne Darling’s music boils down to is Americana indie rock centered around a man, his guitar and the deep metaphors of life that come across in his lyrics. The progression in his career has been more through performances than albums, though he has released an EP and two live albums over the years. He released his debut EP The Secret November in 2011 and followed it up with Live at The Brooklyn Rod & Gun Club in Brooklyn—a city he calls his “second home”—also released in 2011. Then in 2012, he recorded Live at MidPoint Music Festival in Cincinnatti, Ohio, his latest recording effort to date. This gap in recordings makes his upcoming EP that much more highly anticipated by fans and critics.

Tyne Darling has performed across the U.S., Canada and Europe and has already performed with other national acts, including Two Cow Garage, Lucero, Austin Lucas, Charlie Mars, Glossary, Grand Champeen, Richard Buckner, Hank III, Wayne Hancock, The Bottlerockets, Kasey Anderson and more. He went on to perform more than 125 shows in one year, including numerous festivals, such as Wakarusa, SXSW, CMJ, MidPoint Music, Taste of Chicago, Cutting Edge, Miami Music Fest and Michigan Music Conference, among others.

Besides live performances, his music has reached far and wide, making an impact wherever it’s landed. His latest record has received several top 5 radio adds in the U.S., and several of his tracks have been licensed through Tinderbox Music by networks like MTV, VH1, Oxygen, E!, Bravo and Discovery.

Looking toward the future, Tyne Darling will release These Ghosts, the follow-up EP to The Secret November, in early 2014.

Tyne Darling’s track “Punk Rock Girls” will be featured on WiFi PR Group’s indie compilation, Indie Anthems Vol. 4, set to be released at SXSW in March 2014. The digital mixtape will be handed out on 3,500 download cards to SXSW attendees, and 1,500 more copies will be available via download codes on WiFi PR’s Bandcamp page.
