Ummah Global Relief Receive a Special Mention in Letter of Thanks from the Philippine Embassy After Typhoon Haiyan Disaster

Typhoon Haiyan was also known in the Philippines as Typhoon Yolanda, the typhoon hit the Pacific Island November 8th 2013 and was the deadliest typhoon to hit the Philippines since records began.

 

Preston, UK -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/07/2014 -- Ummah Global Relief, an Islamic charity which was founded in 2009 is pleased to have helped thousands of families, widowers, orphans and elderly people. To date most of the charity's work has been in Pakistan, India, Kenya, The Gambia and Jordan. They say that their aim is now to expand operations to more countries in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. The new countries will include Bangladesh, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Niger, Ethiopia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Somalia, Central African Republic, Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.

Ummah Global Relief were quickly on the scene after Haiyan struck and say they were the only Islamic charity in the Philippines at that time, they helped typhoon victims by providing food packs. In order to provide much needed emergency medical treatment the charity took a Dr., team of nurses and other volunteers from the UK.

Haiyan, the deadliest typhoon to hit the Philippines since records began was the strongest storm ever recorded at landfall. Unofficially the typhoon had the strongest wind speeds ever recorded, the Hong Kong Observatory put the storm's maximum ten-minute sustained winds at 275 km/h (170 mph). After the disaster the Philippine embassy wrote a letter of gratitude thanking The UK government and UK organisations for the assistance that they had provided. The embassy's letter singled Ummah Global Relief out and gave them special thanks. The embassy said, “At this juncture, as the Filipino people begin rising from this calamity, we are grateful for the continuing efforts of organizations like Ummah Global Relief to provide crucial assistance for the more difficult task of rebuilding and rehabilitating the affected areas.” The full letter can be seen here.
