UN "International Day of Happiness" Celebrated with Events, Videos, Discounts and Freebies

Happiness author Valerie Alexander joins the United Nations Foundation and Pharrell Williams in promoting global happiness

Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/20/2014 -- Established in 2012 by the United Nations General Assembly, the International Day of Happiness on March 20th acknowledges that "the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human goal" and recognizes "the need for a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes sustainable development, poverty eradication, happiness and the well-being of all peoples."

To help celebrate this day, top-selling happiness author, Valerie Alexander, created the free workbook, “One Day of Fluent Happiness,” now available at SpeakHappiness.com. This short instruction booklet provides seven easy steps people can take every day, regardless of their circumstances, to increase their happiness. It includes tips for starting the day with a happy outlook, staying happy during the morning and evening commutes, and spreading kindness to others as a way to make ourselves happier.

In addition to this free workbook, Alexander is offering the acclaimed self-help book, “Happiness as a Second Language” through Amazon for 72% off the regular price, March 19-21 in the U.S. and the UK, with discounts to continue through the 25th.

Alexander was inspired to get involved with the International Day of Happiness by Pharrell Williams’ 24 Hours of Happiness project, through which he encourages fans to post YouTube videos of themselves "demonstrating their happiness" to his global hit, Happy. On March 20th, the producer will spotlight the best submissions at noon in each time zone.

Happiness as a Second Language” is the ultimate “textbook,” teaching happiness the way one would learn any language that wasn't spoken in the home. The writing is simple and straightforward, the instructions easy to follow, and the sample situations familiar, touching, often heartbreaking and sometimes hysterical. With work, effort, and encouragement from the author, readers will be fluent in Happiness before they know it.
