Protect your colon with pterostilbene
Pterostilbene and resveratrol are phytoalexins that are released when a plants natural defense system is stressed or under attack from pathogens and fungus. Both resveratrol and pterostilbene are hydrocarbons and both compounds have demonstrated significant potential health benefits.
The study used mice and examined the effect of both resveratrol and pterostilbene in preventing chemically-induced colon cancer as resveratrol consumption, from red wine, has previously reported to reduce the risk of certain cancers.
The mice were split into three groups and were injected with a compound, that is known to cause colon cancer tumors, called azoxymethane (AOM). The mice were then fed a daily supplement containing either resveratrol or pterostilbene for six weeks with a control group not receiving either supplement.
After six weeks, carcinogenesis (cancer formation) was assessed. The researchers found that both resveratrol and pterostilbene worked along the same signalling pathways, reducing markers of inflammation, enhancing expression of antioxidant enzymes and regulating gene expression. However, pterostilbene was found to be more effective than resveratrol.
This is significant because previous studies on resveratrol have found it to have a strong anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor effect and given that pterostilbene has been found to have an even stronger reaction lends credence to the fact that cures for many diseases can be delivered from natural compounds
The researchers concluded that “when the above findings are taken together, they suggest that both [resveratrol and pterostilbene] block cellular inflammation and oxidative stress… In comparison, pterostilbene was a more potent chemopreventive agent than resveratrol for the prevention of colon cancer.”
James Betz, Founder and CEO of resveratrol and pterostilbene firm, Biotivia, welcomed these findings: “Its very encouraging to see these results as we have been specializing in resveratrol based health supplements for several years and have recently extended this research into stilbenes, particularly pterostilbene, as we have discovered that both of these compounds have serious health benefits, especially in anti-inflammatory, cardiovascular and cognitive function areas. This is why we have combined both resveratrol and pterostilbene in our new supplement PteroMax.”
PteroMax is the latest development in health supplementation. Delivering the highest amount of pure pterostilbene and trans-resveratrol of any like supplement, PteroMax is the equivalent of 200lbs of raw blueberries. As it also contains polydatin, polyphenols and resveratrol, these ingredients have been found to work more effectively in conjunction with each other and demonstrate better anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic abilities.
Betz continues: “As more studies reveal the healing benefits of naturally occurring compounds, we will be at the forefront of translating these findings into health giving supplements. With PteroMax you have the platinum standard of resveratrol and pterostilbene supplementation with proven results.”

Biotivia most recently signed an agreement to supply Transmax to the University of Ferrara for use in three human clinical trials in Italy and Egypt on its possible use by Thalassemia sufferers as an alternative to the whole blood transfusions which such patients now require monthly. The Albert Einstein Medical College published a study which elucidated the beneficial effects of Biotivia’s proprietary resveratrol on glucose tolerance and mitochondria function in pre-diabetic subjects. Bioforte was also shown to more than double brain blood flow in a study done at the University of Northumbria in the UK.
Biotivia’s resveratrol products, Transmax and Bioforte, have been independently assessed by Consumer Labs, the leading American quality watchdog, and were deemed both ‘most potent’ and ‘best value’. Transmax has been certified as an investigational drug by the NIH, an endorsement of its safety and purity.
