What’s Next for Samsung After Loss to Apple? | Jeff Kagan Tech Analyst
There are so many what’s next questions after the Apple win over Samsung on Friday. Let’s take a look at what’s next.
Apple won this first round. Samsung will appeal. So the fight is not over.
That means customers will not have to face any differences, yet, and Samsung hopes never, but we’ll take this one step at a time.
Long term this won’t have any real impact on Apple, Samsung or Google with their Android.
Short term could get a little bumpy for a while if Samsung loses the appeal.
If Samsung loses the appeal, one of several things will happen depending on what Apple wants. It’ll be Apple choice.
Apple could demand that Samsung stop selling devices. In that case Samsung would have to pull their devices and create alternatives.
Of course since that is always a possibility, I would bet Samsung is already working hard at just that.
Or Apple could strike a deal with Samsung and take a fee for each device. That would mean Samsung would not have any bumps in the road.
Either way, I would bet that Samsung is working hard to develop their own version right now.
So either way, whether they have to pay a licensing fee or whether they have to pull it off the market, it will only be temporary until Samsung rolls out their own version.
That’s why long term I don’t see this as being a problem for Samsung or Google. Short term however could be a problem depending on first the appeal and then on Apple.
