SHARP is in trouble. They are not alone, but that does not help them.
The once high flying Japanese electronics industry has really turned bad.
Sharp is yet another company that is being slammed, and in fact may be the starkest reality blast for investors with a 28% drop.
These lows are incredibly painful for the companies. Sharp is at the lowest point in forty years. Almost one third of the company value is just gone.
The pain is not just Sharp. It’s all companies in the same segment. Companies like SONY also got a very short haircut this week.
The electronics industry is changing. Yesterday it was traditional televisions, computers and assorted electronics.
The next wave has come in and it is full of new electronics like iPhone and Android smart phones, iPads and tablets.
So far it looks like companies like Sharp and Sony are on the downside of the opportunity wave they rode to this point.
The new wave is being ridden by new companies like Apple, Google, Samsung and more.
Sharp does not face a unique problem. Rather it is shared by other leaders of yesterday.
The wave of opportunity they rode, has passed them by and they have not successfully jumped on the next wave, yet. Can they is the question?
This is the same problem faced by countless other companies in Japan, the United States, Canada and all over the world.
It has less to do with location, than vision for the future.
Yesterdays leaders are now facing one of the most serious challenges of their lifetime. Can they catch the next wave? Can they survive? That is the question.
