Who would have ever imagined we’d be hearing about SONY losing so much? One billion is quite a big of loss. This is the fourth year in a row showing a loss.
They were once the hottest thing on the market with the Sony Walkman, televisions and all the other hot tech that kept pouring out of the company. They were the tech leaders.
Allot of change has happened over the last decade or two.
Sony tried to partner with other companies like Ericsson in mobile phones, and tried to create the next Wave to ride, but they kept missing.
They are still currently in many hot sectors like television, computers, eBook readers and so on, but they just have not caught the Wave like Apple and Google have done.
It is becoming difficult to win in the television business. It is becoming commoditized.
The Wave passed Sony years ago. They have been struggling to catch the next Wave ever since and that is the problem.
CEO Howard Stringer will likely pass his position to Executive Deputy President Kaz Hirai.
Kaz Hirai will lead the corporate recovery strategy. Will he be successful. It’s a matter of turning the entire huge ship around. Is it even possible?
First they have to stop the losses. Then they have to grow the business. Segment by segment.
They have to catch the next Wave which I regularly talk about. That is the only way to success. They did it before. They must do it again.
