The FCC has complicated AT&T’s merger plans with T-Mobile today adding another layer for the phone giant to get through. It is getting more difficult and complicated for AT&T to get this deal done.
Will this merger actually happen or not? And even bigger question is how do we solve the growing problem that AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and C Spire face as we use more wireless data with smart phones.
There is a spectrum shortage. That is the reason AT&T want’s to acquire T-Mobile. The thing is this merger will not solve their problem. It will only buy them a few years. Then the problem will be back.
To make matters worse every carrier may face the same problem. So acquisitions are not the solution.
We should be focusing on solving the spectrum shortage.
There are many solutions. One is pooling all the spectrum together and letting each carrier and each smart phone access it all. That way when one band is full the customer will simply use another band, automatically. Simple solution. One of many. This is what we should be discussing right now. Not whether AT&T should merge with T-Mobile.
