Tech Analyst Jeff Kagan On Lightsquared Delay Release of Key Report on GPS

Atlanta, GA, June 16, 2011 — As a Tech Analyst I follow companies like Lightsquared. This is a company with a great idea to solve a growing wireless industry problem. The problem is their idea seems to hurt another industry, the GPS and navigation industry.

Last year I was excited about the idea, but have watched this company struggle with problem after problem. At this point I am really starting to feel bad for founder Phil Falcone and CEO Sanjiv Ahuja as their new Lightsquared company is hitting some very rough waters.

I don’t think the problems and negativity is anything personal. I think it has everything to do with the damage that will be done to another industry. That is the real rub here. Everything we hear about is real problems to the GPS and navigation industry.

What is worse is they have no solution. In a situation like that I am afraid we are in for a very long approval process. In that case the whole thing could start to unwind.

Will Lightsquared become a successful company, or will it simply start to fade away giving way to the next big idea? That is the question we all wrestle with.

If it does not work it would be a shame because the wireless industry really needs a solution like Lightsquared is preparing to offer. More wireless data bandwidth as the smart phone segment continues ot explode.

We now wait to hear from Lightsquared with their workarounds. Let’s hope they have some fresh and workable ideas otherwise their sunny future could start to get gray and cloudy very quickly.
