“Tears of Regret Have the Bitterest Taste; Like Rust in the Mouth of a Mechanical Man…”

Lompoc, CA, September 4, 2009 — Much like the air we breathe, poetic verse is often taken for granted with little thought on how or why a gifted poet can distill the essence of life and love into a stanza or two. That is until you are struck breathless by the power generated by a few choice words or lines, and then your artistic gut gasps for more verse, more rhyme, more ‘ode to life’!

M.C. Laney writes with such power and passion. And “The Pale Indian” is his poetic invitation to breathe deeply from a multitude of life’s magical blessings.

“The Pale Indian” (published by Trafford Publishing) paints in words on an expansive canvas of many themes. From the best of love to the pain of unrequited love; from dark and unshakable thoughts that challenge silence to the maddening search for one’s “true” identity; from irreverence towards religion and the religion of celebrity to the ludicrousness of world leaders and their political actions; from the past, present and future plight of native Americans to the cause de force of the present-day “global” citizen; from the reality of death to the reality of death’s transcendence, Laney leaves an indelible mark on the reader’s mental landscape, all the while leaving universal guideposts along the way to help the seeker find their way. One such guidepost that stands firm within the eroding sands of time comes from his poem “Regret”:

Tears of regret have the bitterest taste

Like rust in the mouth of a mechanical man

Knowing the truth but not doing a thing

Relaxed and lulled into a false sense of security
