Why did the cable television industry agree to sell it’s wireless spectrum to Verizon Wireless without selling it to the highest bidder?
I asked this question last week when it was announced, but have still not heard any answer.
Do Verizon and the cable television industry have some kind of an arrangement? I don’t know. I don’t know anyone else who knows either.
This is very curious.
With AT&T Mobility in dire need for more spectrum it would have make the most sense to have them in on the bidding. Why were they not?
Perhaps Verizon and AT&T could have split the spectrum. Perhaps the spectrum could have been sold to LightSquared so they could offer wireless data to many smaller wireless companies.
There is so much demand for wireless spectrum which is in such short supply.
I don’t have the answer, but I do have the question.
If I were AT&T I would be asking that question very loudly. In fact if I were Sprint Nextel, T-Mobile, C Spire, US Cellular, MetroPCS or any of the smaller wireless networks I would be asking.
