Verizon looks like it is getting very active preparing for growth. Word is they are getting ready to offer a web based TV and movie service and will compete head to head with Netflix.

This is terrible news for Netflix as it struggles to get back on track from self inflicted wounds.

This may be great news for Verizon as it represents a huge new opportunity if they can pull it off.

Verizon is transforming itself. Yesterday it was a local phone company. Today it is a wireless company. They also offer a web based IPTV service. Now they may be getting ready to launch into a new business, television and movies.

The idea of web based television and movies is still strong and growing. The leaders in this space will likely change. Currently the leader is NetFlix. Tomorrow it may be a variety of companies like Verizon and AT&T.

We saw this happen before. Who were the big internet service providers in the 1990′s? They were companies like AOL, Prodigy, Earthlink and Mindspring. Who are they today? Companies like telephone and cable television providers.

Opportunities are born by small companies, then eventually they get taken by larger competitors leaving the past leaders to struggle with falling sales.

The same thing may be getting ready to happen to this web tv space.
