I am sure you have already heard that this is Microsoft’s last year at the Consumer Electronics Show.
The next question is who will take their place?
Microsoft holds a very special place at CES. They hold a key session the night before where first Bill Gates then Steve Ballmer gave a keynote address. They also have a large and key booth in the center of the CES universe. This is their last year. Who will take Microsoft’s place?
One thing is for sure, it will take a big, industry shaping company, with a brand name CEO. But who would that be? There are quite a few companies and CEO’s that fit that description.
Perhaps CES will invite different key executives and companies each year. That would seem to make sense since it would protect CES from the embarrassment like they are experiencing today as Microsoft exits.
Perhaps CES could choose a different key sector, company and CEO each year. That may mean there will be too much fighting for the position. That could be both good and bad.
I don’t have an answer. I don’t think CES has an answer yet either. It will be interesting to see what happens next.
