We have been watching the growth of the cell phone and wireless industry over the years. The CTIA just made a major announcement. We have passed the 100% level. How is that possible? Well many of us carry more than one phone and other devices that connect wirelessly.

There are 327.6 million wireless connections in the United States and there are only 315.5 million of us in the country.

Congratulations to the wireless industry and to us. Carriers like Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility, Sprint Nextel, T-Mobile and the assorted smaller companies. Handset makers like Apple iPhone, Google Android, Nokia, RIM, Samsung, HTC and many others.

We have a penetration of 103.9 percent. That’s incredible.

The USA has 95.8 million smart phones, 278.3 million data-capable devices and 15.2 million tablets, laptops and modems equipped with wireless tech.

We don’t just talk. In fact talking is the third or fourth we do with our phones. We text, send email, surf the web, play with social sites and more.

Increasing usage means we will run into data log jams before long. We have to solve the spectrum shortage problem for all carriers. This will get serious very soon.
