Transparency Market Research Report Added "Activated Alumina Market" to its database.

Albany, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/18/2015 -- Activated alumina is a desiccant to keep things dry by absorbing water from air. It manufactured from aluminium hydroxide. Aluminum hydroxide is dehydroxylated it in a manner that produces a highly porous material. It is also used as a filter for fluoride, arsenic and selenium in drinking water. It is also made of aluminum oxide. It has a very high surface-area-to-weight ratio, due to its porous structure.

Activated alumina is used for a wide range of adsorbent and catalyst applications including the adsorption of catalysts in polyethylene production, in hydrogen peroxide production, as a selective adsorbent for many chemicals including arsenic, fluoride, in sulfur removal from gas streams (Claus Catalyst process). In high vacuum applications, activated alumina is used as a charge material in fore-line traps to prevent oil generated by rotary vane pumps from back streaming into the system. It has been extensively used in biomedical applications. Activated alumina is one of the major solutions used for the reduction of lead, copper and other heavy metals from drinking water. It functions as a corrosion inhibitor to form a microscopic film inside water supply pipes, thereby preventing the leaching of lead solders and other metals throughout the system. It is used as a coagulant or flocculant agent in wastewater treatment plants. Activated alumina is well-known corrosion inhibitors, and has been used for years in drinking water treatment plants.

The demand for water treatment technology is partly being driven by legislation. For instance, in Europe, all quarries are required to have water recycling facilities. Additionally, the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive, one of the directives implemented by the European Union (EU), aims to protect the aquatic ecosystem. EU Member States are required to implement the directive through their national legislation. Most countries in Europe have employed wastewater treatment plants with tertiary treatment for the removal of nutrients (nitrogen or phosphorus or both) and organic matter from wastewater. Furthermore, development in reverse osmosis membrane technology and presence of stringent regulations are driving the demand for water treatment. Thus, rising demand for water treatment across the globe is expected to boost the demand for activated alumina in the near future.
