My Rails Publishing releases two more life skills workbooks for young children with autism, Asperger's, or ADHD. The workbooks develop executive functioning and theory of mind, the skills to plan and to understand how others think and feel. The latest addition of workbooks will help children who struggle with waiting their turn or washing hands.
Skane, Sweden -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/12/2014 -- Be My Rails Publishing releases two more workbooks for children with autism spectrum disorder or ADHD. These workbooks offer children the opportunity to practice life skills in a fun way following their own superhero and her brother from the first Adrian and Super-A book.
The Adrian and Super-A workbooks will help both parents and special educations teachers with explaining daily routines to their children and students. Some of the exercises encourage to use own photos of family members. And the colorful pictures of how to wash hands will appeal more to visually oriented children than just a written social story, one of the most common methods used for children with autism today. All the four workbooks published so far include a small memory game at the end. In one of workbooks the child pairs the wrong and right way to wash hands, and then has to find a towel or a soap to give to the book character who forgot to use them.
Adrian and Super-A, and their friends Thummie the Thumb and Little Miss Trigger, will let themselves be guided by the child through the steps of washing hands and everyday situations where a child has to learn to wait. To motivate the child into solving the simple life skills challenges, the workbook uses Lego bricks, trains, or building blocks. These are interests often found in a child with autism. The "Lego exercises" also serve as a visual instruction, showing how the child should tackle the life skills exercises that follow. Many parents and teachers with autistic children or students have already realized that the special interest is the best way to motivate learning. The Adrian and Super-A workbooks have been illustrated with a visual and pattern recognition strengths in mind, and they have considered both verbal or motor difficulties. There are two difficulty levels available. The STARTERS Workbook, that can help develop executive functions in children as young as three years by teaching them to think in steps, and then The SMARTIES Workbook for children who are ready to start learning numbers.
There are now four workbooks that build on the skills introduced in the book Adrian and Super-A Bake and Like Differently, which is an interactive book sharing many useful life lessons. The two previous workbooks in the series dive into the skills of baking and shared feelings. Both the book and workbooks can be adjusted to the child's age and abilities.
