Denver, CO -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/09/2017 -- Debut Australian author, Helen Scheuerer, has spent more than four weeks atop the Amazon charts after the release of her independently published novel, Heart of Mist.
The young adult fantasy novel debuted at #1 on Amazon AUS in all of its categories. It was also in the top 10 for all its categories on all Amazon sites, and #1 in Hot New Releases.
Over a month after its release, Heart of Mist is still at the top of the Amazon charts and has garnered a host of five-star reviews.
Scheuerer made the decision to independently publish after a traditional publishing contract fell through.
Scheuerer also runs Writer's Edit, an online writers' resource that has grown from a one-woman blog to an international platform and small press.
To publish Heart of Mist, Scheuerer set up Talem Press, a fantasy-focused imprint of Writer's Edit Press.
"It was a natural step to set up Talem Press," Scheuerer said. "We already had a great platform, and after my previous experience in the industry, I wanted control over the publishing schedule and how the book would be marketed."
Heart of Mist was launched on September 2nd at Sydney literary landmark Better Read Than Dead, with over 100 people attending the launch party.
The book quickly became a bestseller at the iconic bookstore – another feat for Scheuerer.
"The book's success is due to a vigorous and narrowly targeted marketing strategy, something that larger publishers aren't as good at. I've also had the wonderful support of the local #LoveOzYA community, who have really got behind Heart of Mist."
