Tinicum, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/07/2019 -- The United States has yet again won the Little League World Series, with Louisiana defeating Curacao 8-0 in the championship game. This is the second year in a row an American team has won the LLWS, and fourth time this decade. The team overcame significant odds to clinch their victory. Louisiana, who had never before reached the final round, stunned the defending champions in Hawaii in the U.S. Championship round to advance. Further expectations were exceeded during the weeks of the tournament with players on the team setting records for most hits in a tournament appearance, as well as most doubles.
As part of the Mid-Atlantic region, Bats Plus also recognizes the Elizabeth, NJ team which represented the area. They ended their run with a 2-2 record, defeating Oregon and Rhode Island while falling short against Hawaii and the eventual champions in Louisiana. With popularity on the rise, the current format of the tournament will be expanded as soon as 2021. Four new teams - two from the U.S. and two international teams - will be added into the LLWS tournament. With this change, new teams from different regions will have the chance to live out their dreams on youth baseball's biggest stage.
