Charente Holiday Gites Reopen After Refurbishment

London, UK -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/07/2014 -- Charente Gite Holidays open their doors once more after an extensive refurbishment of its buildings which date back to 1780. Situated in the popular village of Villefagnan in the Poitou-Charentes region of France, the gites’ new owners, Brits Alison Cottrell and Rob McDougall, have completely updated the facilities which now include a swimming pool and fire pit. This summer is the first season of the new luxury retreat.

Alison and Rob spent well over a year searching for their dream location before finally discovering the wonderful Poitou-Charentes with its abundance of natural beauty and tranquility. The area has a huge variety of wildlife and flora with the village of Villefagnan at its centre. It is close to the picturesque town of Cognac, famous for its brandy, as well as the Maritime-Charente coastal area, while the historic market town of Ruffec is just 10 kilometers away. The whole region is dotted with well-kept golf courses and the nearby town of La Rochefoucauld has a beautiful chateau.

Accommodation available in the new Charente Holiday Gites property includes two gites (or cottages), each with a double master bedroom and second twin bedroom, light open-plan lounge and kitchen with diner. Each gite has its own paved terrace, bathroom or shower room, and all facilities have been completely refurbished with modern utilities and ease of use, without detracting from the elegance and rustic appeal of the original buildings.

Just outside the gites there is a patio with table, chairs, a BBQ and adjoining enclosed courtyard for sunbathing or reading, and the Fire Pit which is an impressive feature in itself. The 10 x 5 metre swimming pool is set in a large terraced area and has tables, chairs, sun loungers and an outdoor solar shower and toilet. Drinks can also be kept chilled in the poolside fridge.

The gites are ideal for booking together for 6-8 people, perhaps Mum, Dad and two children in one and Grandad and Grandma in the other. With just a short walk between the two gites they are close enough for the family to be together but they also afford sufficient individual privacy and space when required, so they may be booked individually as well.

“We decided that the place we bought would have to be our own dream location”, says Alison. “This met all our own criteria and more: a lovely swimming pool, amazing gardens and gite accommodation that we would happily live in ourselves!”

There are several ancient churches in and around picturesque villages to complement your Charente gite holiday; during the summer months there are many fairs and markets where you can buy local produce.
