First Time Buyers Biggest Barriers Revealed

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/25/2016 -- New research has revealed the biggest barriers to first time buyers trying to get onto the property ladder. Tiles Direct conducted a study which asked 500 people what their biggest perceived issues to buying a house were and not surprisingly, the cost of living, low wages and high rent prices came out on top.

Additionally 35.1% of respondents cited rent prices as the biggest impacting factor on saving for a deposit for a house. Rent prices in Scotland have now risen to in excess of £500 per month and with lean wages and a high cost of living, making saving up near impossible for many first time buyers.

In the UK, house prices are continuing to rise but not in line with wage increases, leaving many people with renting as their only option.

A spokesperson for Safe Removals commented, "It has become increasingly difficult in recent years to get onto the property ladder and whilst improvements are being made, such as Barclay's new 100% mortgage, it is still very difficult for people to save the generally required deposit. More needs to be done to make mortgages more accessible to people in such circumstances who otherwise can only rent their homes."
