IOLogics Launches Manchester Buses Journey Planner

Manchester, UK -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/29/2014 -- Greater Manchester is home to 2.5 million people and second largest urban area of United Kingdom. The city hosts a fleet of 600 registered bus services serving 225 million local bus journeys every year. There are other local transport options available as well, such as, trams and local trains but buses are the only transport medium which connects the whole area together. The area is also home to 3 major discipline universities which bring in 10s of thousands of students every year from around the world. These students need tools to explore and plan their bus journeys within the city to attend their classes on time.

Web based journey planners are around from over a decade now, there are more than 300 journey planning apps and websites available only for London, however, rest of the UK was mostly using Transport Direct and Traveline journey planners as their dedicated journey planner tools.

On 1st October, 2014, UK Government closed down Transport Direct website, citing £50 million annual cost as the reason, that left people of Greater Manchester with Traveline and Route Explorer tool of TfGM which was recently announced on 24th September 2014.

Although, Traveline's main website is mobile friendly, the website serving north-west region is not. On the other hand, TfGM's Route Explorer is a bit complex to use for a first time visitor and provides bus information only if it could find a direct route between departing and arriving stops, at that time, also, it just sends the user to consult with TfGM's online timetable library.

“Taking care all of these facts and considering our love for Greater Manchester, it’s people and its fleet of buses which keep the city going, we decided to build Manchester Buses – Your new Bus Journey Planner, a public service website which is simple, easy to use, optimized for mobile users, provides latest and up-to-date direct and in-direct route information and is far more quicker than now defunct Transport Direct website”, said Hammad Tariq, CEO of IOLogics Ltd.

Integration of local maps and live bus departures to make Manchester Buses more useful for local commuters, dedicated and natively-coded Android and iOS mobile apps are expected to be launched by IOLogics Ltd in November this year.
