Lamar Hunt Jr.'s Mavericks Win in Overtime to Defeat Mallards

Lamar Hunt Jr.'s ECHL team defeated the Quad City Mallards 4-3 in overtime on Wednesday November 4.

 

Kansas City, MO -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/05/2015 -- The Missouri Mavericks, owned by Lamar Hunt Jr., won their Wednesday night game against the Quad City Mallards. The November 4 game was held in Moline, IL the home ice of the Quad City Mallards. The Mavericks away win came after two back to back away game losses at the end of the first month of the 2015-16 ECHL season.

Jesse Root, leading goal scorer for the Mavericks, scored two goals in the game including the game winning overtime goal. Goalie Josh Robinson managed to save 27 shots on goal while defending the Mavericks net during 60 minutes of regulation play and 37 seconds of overtime hockey. Robinson had been announced as the ECHL "Goaltender of the Month" earlier the same day.

The Mallards scored the first point of the November 4 game but did not hold onto their lead for long throughout the remainder of regulation play. The third period of the game saw a Mavericks lead taken away by Mallards players Jake Baker who managed to score against Robinson to tie up the game 3-3 and take the teams into overtime. The Mavericks kept Robinson in the net for overtime and won with a goal scored against the Mallards less than one minute into post-regulation play.
