Metro Tech Launches Student Leadership Academy with OKCPS Bodine Elementary

Oklahoma City, OK -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/09/2016 -- Metro Tech has recently launched a student leadership academy alongside OCKSP Bodine Elementary to enhance the educational experience of its students. ACCORD, which stands for Action, Communication, Overcoming, Resilience, and Diversity, is funded by a grant from the Kirkpatrick Foundation as well as funds from the Metro Tech Foundation.

There are monthly after-school meetings in which students hear from a number of different guest speakers that address these five areas as well as discussing assigned reading from The Student Leader in roundtable format.

1Accord has monthly meetings and even planned a day dedicated to community awareness, organizing activities for daycare children at the City Rescue Mission as well as taking a tour of the TEEM Ministries.

This academy was put together to ensure good leadership skills in all of its students by exposing them to certain guest speakers as well as keeping them engaged in activities that promote these kinds of skills. Both Metro Tech and OCKSP Bodine Elementary both have a history of going the extra mile to ensure that their students receive a quality education as well as skills that will serve them well in later life.

The 1Accord Student Leadership Academy was initially launched back in September of 2015 to provide students with a quality education as well as leadership skills that they could use while in school and after graduating.

The Student Leader text reflects Metro Tech's own Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership, and it is in alignment with the school's mission statement and core values. Some of Metro Tech's Core Values include learning-centered, customer-focused, innovative, accountable and ethical, dedicated to continuous quality improvement, nurturing, sensitive and supportive.

The Core Competencies of Metro Tech include a holistic approach to education, technical training, customized business and industry training, agility and flexibility. It is the overall goal of Metro Tech to provide students with the highest quality programs and services to enable them to succeed in their selected careers as well as higher education.

The launching of this new leadership academy with OKCPS Bodine Elementary is widely regarded as being one of the most innovative student programs in recent years. Both of these educational institutions have been and continue to work closely with each other to ensure that all students who are part of this academy receive the very best education and develop necessary leadership skills for their future careers.
