Boston, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/24/2014 -- Towards the end of the review period, the government and consumers in Vietnam became more aware and concerned about food safety and hygiene. In early 2013, the circular 30/2012/TT-BYT regulations on food safety conditions for street stalls/kiosks came into effect. The majority of street stalls/kiosks in Vietnam are small family businesses and have traditionally not been subject to food hygiene standards. As a result, this development might help improve food hygiene standards within street stalls/kiosks. Furthermore, the government has not shown great enthusiasm to develop street stalls/kiosks foodservice due to its desire to maintain the beauty of the city landscape. As a result, in 2013 the area recorded the lowest value growth rate within consumer foodservice.

Competitive Landscape

In 2013, Banh Mi Que brand led sales within chained street stalls/kiosks, recording a value share of 80%. However, the chain reduced its number of outlets at the end of the review period ? a development which resulted in the company losing value share gradually. Banh Mi Que is popular thanks to its affordable prices and the familiar taste of the Vietnamese baguette. Furthermore, many consumers perceive this brand?s food safety and hygiene standards as being higher than those of other street stalls/kiosks.

Industry Prospects

Street stalls/kiosks will remain one of the most popular channels in Vietnamese consumer foodservice, mainly thanks to the culture, traditions and preferences of consumers. Furthermore, cheap prices, authentic tastes and convenience are other key factors which will support growth over the forecast period.
