Boston, MA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 06/13/2014 -- Total travel retail value sales reached CZK26.3 billion in 2012. The largest category in 2012 was travel retail package holidays with sales amounting to CZK12.1 billion. It remained the leading category despite only a slight decline in current value sales compared to 2011. In general terms, the stagnation in outgoing holiday tourism resulted from an economic situation which caused tourists to be more aware of their budgets. The participants in package holiday trips were usually people with personal income above average or best agers.
Distribution of market shares amongst the leading travel retail companies remained relatively stable in 2012 as no company recorded a significant loss in share. Most companies recorded value sales growth over 2012 but second ranked Cedok saw a 3% sales decline and lost a half percentage points in value share. The leading leisure travel retailer in the Czech Republic, travel agency Exim Tours, held a 12% value share in 2012. The company concentrates on outbound tourism travel. The four biggest travel retail operators, Exim Tours, Cedok, Firo-Tour and CK Fischer, are expected to control the majority of market share also over the forecast period. Consumers believe that these companies have long traditions and a sufficient amount of available resources, and are unlikely to go bankrupt.

Value sales of travel retail are expected to increase by 19% (at constant 2012 prices) over the forecast period. Despite the popularity of purchasing directly from operators, travel retail will, nonetheless, see growth. The performance of travel retail will be impacted by the speed of the Czech economic recovery. If the country recovers as anticipated, consumers will become more willing to spend on travel and related services. Furthermore, the country's economic recovery is likely to result in increased demand for corporate business travel products, although restrictions on travel are likely to remain in place in many companies.
