The Ferndale Cat Shelter

New No-Kill Cat Shelter Formed in Ferndale, MI

Ferndale, MI -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/04/2014 -- The Ferndale Cat Shelter is a Michigan non-profit corporation, soon to be a 501(c)3 tax-exempt entity, based in Ferndale, MI. The Ferndale Cat Shelter has three main operations:

1. Adoption of cats into loving forever homes
2. A no-kill sanctuary for cats that are not adopted
3. A trap-neuter-return program to reduce the feral cat population of Ferndale

The Ferndale Cat Shelter’s adoption and sanctuary will serve to help cats in need. Kittens and adult cats that can be adopted will be found forever homes. Cats that are not adopted will live out their lives at the sanctuary under the Maddie’s Fund no-kill animal policy.

The trap-neuter-return program (TNR) will produce a stable feral cat population in Ferndale, and then spread to surrounding cities. TNR is the most effective method to control feral cats, a problem that has increased in recent years in Ferndale. TNR reduces the nuisances that people experience due to mating, such as fighting, noise, and marking behaviors. TNR further benefits people since feral cats control the rat and small rodent population. TNR benefits feral cats since their population reaches a healthy stasis when a comprehensive TNR program is implemented.

The Ferndale Cat Shelter was formed by animal-loving Ferndale residents Benjamin Long, Kristen Schmitt and Angela Fisher. The Ferndale Cat Shelter is currently seeking people to be involved with the shelter.
