Steamships and trolleys brought throngs of local and New York City visitors for entertainment and to find relief from the doldrums of hot urban summers. For hundreds of years throughout the world, amusement parks have appealed to "the kid in all of us". The authors highlight some of the lesser-known amusements parks in the Hudson Valley that entertained millions into the 20th century.
Relive the times of wooden roller coasters, magical carousels, vaudeville acts, and dance halls at venues such as Electric Park at Kinderhook Lake and Woodcliff Pleasure Park in Poughkeepsie, among others.
