PA-Based Companies Team to Bring Potentially Life-Saving Idea to Reality via AllertMe App

Teams at Allergy Defender, LLC and Cross & Crown Partner To Develop and Launch Allergy Alert App

Chambersburg, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/14/2015 -- Chambersburg, PA-based companies Allergy Defender, LLC, and design and marketing firm, Cross & Crown, have partnered to create AllertMe® – a new allergy recall app that delivers critically important food recall information directly to the user's phone or tablet. Focusing on disseminating U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recalls and alerts from other public health agencies, the app is available now for $4.99 via the iTunes App Store, Android's Google Play. Previews of the app and additional information can be found online at http://allertme.com/.

Tim Mussmon, founder at Allergy Defender explains the idea behind the app: "When my son was around age two, we discovered he has a severe peanut and tree nut allergy. These allergies have impacted our lives greatly and we had to quickly educate ourselves. We not only have to stay current with what products contain nuts, traces of nuts or have been produced in a plant that handles nuts, but we also need to be aware of food recalls where items not usually associated with nuts have somehow become contaminated and are recalled. There are various ways to find this information, but nothing that easily provides the specific recalls I am looking for without wading through information and emails containing details on recalls for allergies that do not concern my family or even recalls for items such as pet food."

Mussmon took his idea for Allergy Defender's first app to design company, Cross & Crown, who specialize in app development as well as full service marketing.

"We were very intrigued with the idea Allergy Defender brought us," says Trevor Roberts, Partner at Cross & Crown. "It seemed like a simple idea, yet it brings so much value to the data that the FDA is providing. The fact that the app could potentially save lives really rallied us together as a team to bring this idea to fruition."

Through the app, users can choose what type of alerts they receive – from very targeted to all-encompassing. AllertMe® allows the user to know instantly about all types of food product and ingredient recalls in effect, including: wheat & gluten, lactose & dairy, peanut, seafood & shellfish, sulfite, bacterial pathogens, eggs, soy and tree nuts. Recall information comes from the FDA, other public health agencies, local and national food industry producers and distributors. After the user downloads the app and chooses the foods and ingredients they would like to be aware of, alerts will begin appearing on the user's screen as pertinent recalls are announced.

"Overall, this is an ease of use tool," Mussmon continues. "With more and more allergies every day and the busyness of life, this is a great tool to help save lives that takes away the burdensome concern of constantly researching to keep you and your loved one aware."

"We worked to keep the interface simple yet build a solid foundation that we could continue to grow the app on. The goal was to keep the app focused on solving the problem we set out to and do it in a first class way," adds Roberts.
