Phillip R. Langsdon Elected President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

 

Memphis, TN -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/24/2018 -- Phillip R. Langsdon, MD, FACS, Memphis facial plastic surgeon and professor in the College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), was elected President-Elect of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) during the organization's annual fall meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. As president, he will oversee the world's largest organization of facial plastic and reconstructive surgeons. He takes office in October 2018.

Over the years,Dr. Langsdon has served the AAFPRS in many capacities, most recently as national meeting director and as a member of the Board of Directors representing the Southern region.

Dr. Langsdon has been with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center- Memphis for 23 years. He trains residents in facial aesthetic surgery at his Germantown office and trauma and reconstruction surgery at UTHSC-affiliated hospitals. Additionally, he is a fellowship director for a facial plastic surgery training program under the auspices of the AAFPRS and the Accreditation Council on Post Specialty Education.

Dr. Langsdon's career has been limited to and focused entirely on Facial Plastic Surgery and he has dedicated himself to the pursuit of excellence in this field. A frequent lecturer throughout the U.S. on the topics of facial plastic surgery, he has given well over 200 medical lectures. He has over 40 publications, authoring several medical articles, book chapters, and a medical textbook. He has appeared nationally on The Today Show, Headline News (worldwide), CSPAN, and has been quoted in national publications such as Glamour Magazine. He has been selected for inclusion in Best Doctors in America list by Woodward/White, Inc., the Guide to Americas' Top Physicians by Consumer's Research Council of America, and Best Cosmetic Surgery, as well as Best Medical Spa by the Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper for several years.

He has been an active volunteer in many church, civic and professional organization programs. He has served in medical mission to the nation of Haiti, and he has actively and financially supported patient care and education programs for that country. Dr. Langsdon also helps the underserved in the Mid South by providing pro bono reconstructive facial plastic surgical service for the working poor through the Memphis Church Health Center's volunteer surgical subspecialty service program. In addition he spends hours each day teaching medical residents in training as well as young doctors specializing in facial plastic surgery. Dr. Langsdon believes in providing Compassionate Care with Natural Looking results.

Dr. Langsdon is currently completing his term as president of the Memphis Medical Society. He received his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine, his general surgery training at UAMS in Little Rock, his residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Indiana University, and his fellowship in facial plastic surgery with the AAFPRS, affiliated with the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
