E-readers started to gain a foothold over the second part of the review period, but it appears that it will not become a widely used product due to the emerging competition from replacement products like tablets and phablets. The increasing possession rate of tablets is increasingly threatening sales of e-readers as tablets can be easily used in poor lighting conditions, while the vast majority of e-book readers lack any sort of lighting. However, the competition is not yet severe as the price tag on tablets is very high and battery life significantly shorter.
