New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/03/2011 -- As reported by the Financial Times, the IntercontinentalExchange (ICE) has bought into a Brazilian clearing firm as it prepares to launch an electricity market and try to challenge BM&F Bovespa’s dominance. This follows BATS Global Markets, a stock exchange operator, which signed a memorandum of understanding with Claritas, a Brazilian asset management firm, for the potential creation of a new stock exchange in Brazil. Sao Paulo speed traders, ready to take advantage of multiple trading venues, will find enlightening High-Frequency Trading Experts Workshop DVD Video Package, "Practical Implementation of High-Frequency Trading Strategies", now available online at http://www.HFTExpertsWorkshop.com.

The entry of other potentially formidable competitors comes as Bovespa, Latin America’s largest capital market, prepares for greater competition. It has lowered its pricing on equity trading, while raising fees on post-trade clearing services. Earlier this year, ICE said it was launching BRIX, an electricity futures market, in partnership with Eike Batista, Brazil’s richest man; the first BRIX contracts, set to launch later this month, will be bilateral deals that are not centrally cleared. At the same time, BATS Global Markets had signed a memorandum of understanding with Claritas; under the agreement, the organizations would collaborate to explore the possibility of creating a new market that has clearing and depository services in Brazil.
