In 2010, only approximately 25 % of the Russian population had access to a broadband connection and only 8 million Russians had a fixed-line connection. Nonetheless, almost 40 % of the population used the internet. The number of online shoppers increased in 2010 to as many as 45 million.

Private shopping sites as an important trend
The growing importance of social networks is particularly apparent in Russia. The average time spent online on such sites per visitor reached an international record in August 2010 with nearly 10 hours. Additionally, so-called private shopping sites mark one of the main trends in Russian B2C E-Commerce. KupiVIP is successfully represented in this category with the distribution of designer fashion.
