F1 Racing Motorsports in India Reaching to a New Milestone Soon

 

New Delhi, India -- (SBWIRE) --11/16/2011 -- RIDING on Formula On fever, another racing event is set to take Indian audience by storm in January next year. Machdar Motorsports organisers of the i1 Super Series are banking on Indian drivers to pull audience to the event.

With Shah Rukh Khan co-promoted sporting venture KKR having already bagged the Mumbai team management guru Arindam Chaudhuri has become the Delhi franchisee holder for the i1 super series.

Each team owner will pay a fee of $ 20 million over 15 years. We will have more Indian drivers here to help draw more people to the races, P Darshan, CEO Machdar Motorsports told Financial Chronicle.

The i1 Super Series will consist of 12 races with nine teams representing cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Pune and Bangalore. The company will finalise owners for the remaining seven teams in the next three days, Darshan said. The owners will be a mix of corporate houses, celebrities and private equity players, he said.

Two drivers will represent each team where at least one driver from each team must be a certified Indian driver.

The teams will compete for $ 2 million prize money.

The inaugural i1 Super Series season will be held in January 2012 at the Buddh International Circuit.

Races will also be held in the UAE, Malaysia, Bahrain and Qatar.

All drivers will drive a unique car model from Radical Sportscars - the SR3 roadster. The SR3

roadster used for the races will churn out similar speeds of about 240 kmph like the F1 with capability to rev up from 0 to 100 kmph in three seconds.

Arindam Chaudhuri said that getting the Delhi franchisee would be the perfect vehicle to strengthen his sporting venture Planman Stars. After the success of the inaugural Indian GP , motorsport is definitely enjoying on a high in the country and will only continue to grow, he added.
