Wales’ unemployment rate of 8.4% for the period April-June 2011 is ahead of that of England (7.9%), Scotland (7.7%) and Northern Ireland (7.3%). Overall, 7.9% of people aged 16-plus are unemployed across the UK – this ranges from 5.8% in the South East to 10% in North East. A total of 122,000 people are unemployed in Wales – an increase of 10,000 (+0.7%) on the period January to March 2011.
