The New Artistic Director Of The Choral Arts Society

 

Austin, TX -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/11/2012 -- Scott Tucker has been named as being the brand new artistic director of the Choral Arts Society, Tucker will succeed Norman Scribner, 76, who's retiring at the end of the year, forty-six years after he started the chorus. After Scribner announced his intention to retire back in August 2010, the Society begun their quest for a successor which ended up turning into a demanding international search that drew close to eighty applicants. Each one of the 4 finalists this season came in to work with the 170 member amateur chorus and chair of the board. Barbara Rossotti was impressed with Tucker as soon as she witnessed his 1st rehearsal, proclaiming that Mr. Tucker's rapport with the singers was evidence by their instant and encouraged response to his direction.

Despite the fact that Scott Tucker is a fairly unknown name in Washington; the musician, conductor, teacher and composer arrives from Cornell University where he has been the Choral Director since 1995. Throughout a 17 year tenure at Cornell he commissioned over 30 works and premiered works by composers such as Augusta Read, Carol Barnett, David Conte, Ernani Aguiar, and Bernard Rands. Tucker also offers a large experience of setting up large scale symphonic works.

Scott Tucker, 55, is retiring from his tenure at Cornell University to be able to take the position of Artistic Director at the Choral Arts Society and after news of his appointment came out, Tucker reported that he was craving a new adventure and a new challenge. Tucker went on to add that conducting is educational no matter who you are working with, even just in the professional world. While at Cornell University Scott Tucker directed the Men's Glee Club and the Women's Chorus and overseeing the activities of the Cornell Chorale, Chamber Singers and Sage Chapel Union. Scott Tucker also offers experience in world music, having took a sabbatical year in South Africa learning traditional African music written from a local musician. Before his time at Cornell, Scott Tucker was an assistant conductor at Harvard University.
