Local Business to Support New California Guidelines on Head Lice Prevention

Scotts Valley, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/21/2012 -- The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) now recommends that schools and childcare facilities maintain an active educational campaign for parents on the accurate diagnosis and proper treatment of head lice cases to prevent transmission of lice in schools and reduce lost school days due to head lice infestation.

“These new guidelines assist local health departments, elementary schools, preschools, and child care facilities in developing policies and procedures for the care of head lice cases," explains Marcy McQuillan, Owner of Nitless Noggins Lice removal treatment center in Scotts Valley.

Nitless Noggins uses the FDA-Cleared LouseBuster device to kill lice and eggs in a 30 minute treatment. The device has been added to CDPH’s new guidelines as an appropriate head lice treatment.

“Traditionally, head lice policies in schools emphasized that a child infested with head lice could not return to school until no nits were found in their hair [“no-nit” policy]. But with the LouseBuster device, children can return to class after a single half hour treatment,” explains McQuillan.

The FDA-cleared LouseBuster is a revolutionary new device that is chemical and pesticide free. Clinical studies show that the device, which uses only controlled heated air, is a safe, fast, highly effective way to kill all stages of head lice—including the eggs—through rapid dehydration.

“With this new treatment, kids won’t need to miss school, and parents won’t need to miss work. We’ll get them right back into the classroom, and continuing their education. They won’t miss a beat.”

Nitless Noggins also does head checks, and comb outs following a LouseBuster treatment.

“Sometimes a student can be sent home from school, because they think they have lice, then they come to our treatment center, and after a head check, we realize that isn’t the case. Lice can often be misdiagnosed.”

McQuillan said she is excited about the new guidelines, because she doesn’t feel children should miss so much school.

“With the treatments available, it’s about education. I hope parents and schools will realize there is finally an easy answer, and that they now have access to it.”
