Altamonte Springs, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/18/2010 -- 2010 GRAND-AM Rookie Daytona Prototype Driver Dion von Moltke goes back to where it all began. Dions first test in a Daytona Prototype came at the historic Mid Ohio Sports Car Course just one year ago in the #77 Doran Racing Ford Dallara in a Series sanctioned test alongside many of the top teams and drivers in the series today. Dion was testing with fellow South African driver Hennie Groenewald, as both drivers paced themselves against the competition very quickly.

It was Dion however that opened a lot of eyes as Groenewald is well known as the 4-Time South African National Champion, and von Moltke came in as a relative unknown to the Daytona Prototype class competitors. By the end, all eyes were on Dion as he finished the test with the third fastest time which left a number of team owners and fellow drivers wondering about the young up-and-coming driver. Dion reflects; "I am especially looking forward to this Mid-Ohio weekend as this track holds a special place in my memories!! I got my first ever professional fastest lap of a race here, as well as my first ever test in a Daytona Prototype, with Doran Racing. To be coming here a year later racing for them with Memo Gidley is special, but just being in the race is not we want as the whole team and I will be pushing very hard for our first win.”

In 2010 von Moltke has stepped up to make his presence known in the DP ranks with four Top-10 finishes to his credit in just six races, just three points out of the Top-10 in Driver Championship Points, and sitting in the Top-5 in both Rookie of the Year points and for the end of season Jim Truman Award. Dion is actually the leading Daytona Prototype Rookie to date in the 2010 season. His Doran Racing team is currently just 10 points outside the Top-5 in Team Championship Points and entering the teams’ home race this weekend has the whole team talking about the possibilities with their knowledge and experience at Mid Ohio and the driver pairing of Dion von Moltke and Memo Gidley. “It is the home track for us at Doran Racing and should have quite a few extra fans and we want to do well for them and our sponsors PR Newswire/South African Airways/ McDonalds. It will be a very hot and humid race this weekend, thankfully I have been preparing extremely hard at the gym and I am more determined than ever to break through for our first podium of the season!" states von Moltke.
