QPR Launches in Fight Against New Zealand Suicide

Auckland, New Zealand -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/19/2010 -- QPR.org.nz has recently launched with a new model it hopes will significantly decrease the 500 suicides in New Zealand each year. QPR intends to also decrease significantly the estimated 3000 New Zealanders that attempt suicide each year through three enterprise course packages. These packages will effectively train organisations, community members and individuals on suicide prevention strategies through QPR’s new website.

QPR’s aim in creating it’s suicide prevention training courses is to provide useful information to those who need suicide advice for friends, family or colleagues from the comfort of their own homes. In addition, as a result of QPR’s progressive training material, users can take the course at their own pace.

QPR’s Level one course is available to anyone in need of Suicide prevention training from all walks of life and teaches them how they can question, persuade and refer potential suicidal individuals for additional help. The course is progressive and provides a competency certificate on completion to acknowledge those who complete it.

Level two is QPR’s Suicide Triage program has been created to teach participants how to probe for, and initially assess immediate risk factors for suicidal behaviors as well as how to immediately enhance protective factors. This course is an 8 hour comprehensive program delivered in a classroom setting. QPR Level two training would be appropriate for those in a position to conduct a suicide risk assessment (e.g., social workers, schools counsellors, mental health nurses, alcohol and drug counsellors).

Level three of QPR is a 10-hour course designed for primary healthcare professionals, these include: psychiatrists, psychologists, counsellors, substance abuse treatment providers, and or any registered professionals who evaluate, manage or treat suicidal persons. Level three offers comprehensive instruction in the core elements of evidence-based suicide risk management practices.

QPR New Zealand is wholly owned by CASA (Clinical Advisory Services Aotearoa Limited) and aims to equip people to deal with the issue of suicide on the level that is most appropriate to them. You can visit QPR’s website at QPR.org.nz.
