San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/05/2014 -- Residential solar energy continues to be a bigger factor with each utility billing cycle. More and more people are turning to solar as an alternative source of home energy, By doing so, many residential solar system owners are drastically reducing their electricity bill. Advances in solar technology have increased efficiency and made residential solar systems more affordable.

"We wanted to know what the public thought about residential solar power," TBC's Bryce Morgan said. "The technology is still young, but has has a promising future."

Consumers were asked "Have you considered residential solar power?" 51.1% of participants said that they have no interest in residential solar power.

Surprisingly, 3.9% of the nationwide poll said they are currently using solar energy at home. 11.2% have considered solar at home, but do not feel that it is a good fit for them. 16.4% have no considered using residential solar power but are interested in the solutions it provides. Lastly, 17.4% are currently still considering using a residential solar for their home energy needs.

Of those not interested in residential solar systems, the great majority were over 45 years old, while the younger participants were much more open to the idea of solar.

When asked "Why would you choose residential solar energy?" 38.3% replied that they would choose residential solar to save on their electricity bill compared with 26.4% that replied with "to support clean energy." 20.8% of the participants said that they would not choose residential solar energy. The final 14.4% said they would choose residential solar energy to have an alternative energy supply.

Ages 18-34 were least likely to respond that they would not choose residential solar energy.
