Washington, DC -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/09/2014 -- Andrew Gemmell is a national champion swimmer who competes in long distance freestyle events. He was a member of the 2012 United States Olympic Team and competed in the 1500m Freestyle, in London. In 2014, he won the Men's Open Water Swim at the Pan Pacific Championships in Hawaii. Gemmell is currently training for the 2016 Olympics, in Rio, where he is considered a favorite to medal in the 10k Open Water Swim.

On Thursday, December 11th, Gemmell will lead an interactive session with students and their families at Bancroft Elementary School's "Family Fitness Night". Gemmell will speak to students—ranging from 1st to 5th Grade—about the importance of maintaining athletic, academic and community values on a daily basis, and the impact that each has had on his international swimming career. Gemmell is an Athlete Ambassador for the local non-profit Sports for Sharing, which has an active bilingual program in the DC public school system.

Sports for Sharing (S4S) is partnering with DLE Agency to bring Andrew Gemmell to Bancroft Elementary School. Bancroft is a dual language public school that inspires students to reach their full potential and become bilingual global citizens who lead in the 21st century.
