Is Candida Destroying Your Health

Mountain View, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/29/2010 -- Candida symptoms can vary from mild to severe. They can be constant or sporadic. They are always frustrating and difficult to get rid of unless you understand the cause and how to treat it. Before discussing Candida symptoms it is important to understand what Candida is. Candida is a form of yeast that occurs and lives naturally within everyone’s body. Our bodies have a natural ability to control the growth of Candida and prevent the symptoms of Candida overgrowth.

Candida is only a problem when it is allowed to grow out of control. When the natural defenses of the body break down and our protective systems get out of balance the Candida cells begin to multiply rapidly. As the Candida growth continues the yeast changes to mold and Candida symptoms begin to emerge.

Candida yeast infections are considered in two groups – acute or chronic. With an acute yeast infection the Candida symptoms usually develop very fast (sometimes overnight) and are initially located in only one area of the body. Some vaginal and oral Candida infections are examples of acute Candida yeast infections. The Candida symptoms may go away if the infection is treated early at this stage.

Symptoms of an acute Candida yeast are different depending on the location of the infection but they might include the following:

- Red itchy rash
- Pain and soreness
- White patches on skin, mouth, tongue, or throat
- Discharge that resembles cottage cheese in appearance
- Pain or discomfort during intercourse
- Pain or burning during urination

The primary difference between Candida symptoms with an acute infection and with a chronic infection is in how many locations in or on the body the infection shows up. With an acute infection the symptoms often are experienced in only one area. Chronic infections usually show up in multiple areas at the same time. Unfortunately, if left untreated, an acute infection can easily spread throughout the body and become a chronic infection.

Candida can grow out of control in almost any body tissue. It can grow in your joints and bones and in the tissues of the kidney, liver, heart, brain, and muscles. Once the Candida infection gets out of control it causes inflammation in that tissue. The effects of that inflammation are widely varied depending upon where the infection has taken root.

Chronic Candida infection can cause such a wide variety of symptoms that it is almost impossible to exclude any symptom as a possible Candida symptom. Symptoms often change over time as the body tries to fight the infection in one area only to have it take hold and emerge in a completely different area. The severity of the symptoms will usually worsen over time. Because of this wide variety of symptoms, many of us have had our chronic Candida infections go undiagnosed and untreated for years.

Candida symptoms may remain steady and predictable for time and then get worse overnight. We may have severe Candida symptoms one day and be surprised with only mild symptoms or even no symptoms at all the following day. A common symptom mentioned by Candida yeast infection sufferers is a vague feeling of not being completely well all the time…not really being sick but definitely not being well. If with chronic Candida infections go untreated they will make some people so ill that they can’t get out of bed or perform even the basic functions of life.

While chronic Candida symptoms vary greatly they usually include some or all of these:

- General Feeling of Not Being Well
- Tiredness and Fatigue
- Aches and Pains in Muscles or Joints
- Lack of Energy
- Changes in Mood
- Changes in Weight
- Problems with Stomach and Bowel
