China and India to lead new installations: China is the leading country in terms of net thermal capacity additions during the forecast period, expected to add 580 GW, followed by India with 161 GW. Other major countries include the US, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Turkey, South Korea and Indonesia.

Debt offerings dominate completed deals: The global thermal power market recorded a total of 381 completed deals in 2014, most of which were debt offerings, acquisitions, and asset finance, totaling $152 billion.

Significant new plant construction contracts signed: In 2014, 256 contracts were signed in the thermal power market, most of which were for the supply and erection of power plant-related equipment. A total of 84 contracts were recorded for the construction of power plants with a capacity of more than 30 GW.

India tops plant outages: India, the UK and Italy were the top three countries in terms of plant outages. India topped the list with 104 GW, followed by the UK with 96 GW and Italy with 43 GW. The UK and Italy accounted for the highest number of planned outages.
