At this year’s World Car Awards Mercedes almost swept the board.The German car manufacturer won three out of the five awards on offer.
Birmingham, West Midlands -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/06/2015 -- Mercedes' hat trick came as a huge surprise to many in the industry, but it is a reflection of how well this car manufacturer is regarded by consumers. The C-class won the World Car of the Year award, the S-Class Coupe took home the World Luxury Car award and the AMG GT was named as the World Performance Car of the Year.
The World Car Awards are highly regarded. These awards definitely influence the vehicles people actually end up buying, so Mercedes should see a significant rise in sales after winning these awards. The majority of those who buy used cars in Birmingham are not in the market for an S Class Mercedes. Demand for luxury used cars is growing in the city as the economic recovery begins to be felt there. Both new and used luxury car dealers in the city have seen an increase in consumer interest over the past six months.
Sales of luxury cars are once again growing in the UK, and in many other parts of the world. After nearly five flat years, 2014 was a good year for luxury car manufacturers.
Overall sales of luxury cars grew in the UK during 2014. Much of that growth came from fleet buyers who are once again buying luxury marks like Mercedes, Jaguar and Audi. There has also been a growth in demand for luxury cars from small business owners.
In 2015, private car owners are also expected to buy more luxury vehicles than they have done in the past five years. This is in part because of the economic recovery, but the fact that many can now release significant fund from their private pensions is also expected to boost demand for the sector.
BMW and Citroen took home the other two awards. The BMW i8 was a surprise in the environmentally friendly category. It won the World Green Car of the Year award. Citroen's C4 Cactus was the only non-German vehicle to win an award. The designers of the innovative Citroen won the World Car Design of the Year.
