Rapper Michael Barber's Motion Picture Mayhem Albums Hits 250,000 Milestone

Astoria, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/01/2010 -- Now signed on Universal Records, Michael Barber is making noise with his Motion Picture Mayhem series put out independently. The two part movie based series has hit the 250,000 download mark. Michael released his first installment in 2008 and part two in 2009. Part two featured the first ever recording of artist Akon, a rare unheard song that Michael obtained while working inside different studios over the years.

Michael has interned for Sony Records and worked at some of the biggest studios in the world. Part one, released in 2008, earned him a deal with Universal Records as they saw his instant impact on the internet. It was downloaded around 75,000 times in a two week period. The second release was first issued as a free torrent download online and hosted on Frostwire.com went on to become a for sale item on Itunes and Amazon. It has sold right under 17,000 copies online.

Michael spoke with a Dallas radio station about his 3rd installment set to release on Christmas day as his debut single on Universal Records, Shotguns and Canned Goods featuring Nappy Roots was debuted.

"I am really proud of the series, it didn't become an instant hit, it kind of grew into what it is today. The third one, so far is the best, just like anything you get better with time. This one is really gonna be different, it will have the same theme, but will have more rock sounds as I am working with the guitarist and song writer from the philly metal group, Chemical Dependency, Josh Tifer. He brings a lot of different aspects to the table."

Michael's lack of trying to formulate a pop song has made him what one Warner Music Group rep called, "an interesting music enigma, who stays true to himself." That sounds like quite the compliment coming from a label that turned him down due to the same reasons of not selling out.

The Motion Picture Mayhem series is famous for being made using only a DVD player and Pro Tools. Barber sampling techniques has earned him many comparisons to The Wu Tang Clan's Rza and of course Kanye West.

Barber, who interned with Nas at Sony Records, earned his praise last year with a Co-Sign. He also earned what some would call, "an industry black ball" after his mix tape last year, The Truth, he threw people under the bus, like Kanye West, Drake, and continued his bullying of MC Asher Roth. Many experts at Universal said Asher would never be able to come back from the lashings that Barber delivered.

Motion Picture Mayhem 3 is set to release on Christmas Day online only, and his debut single on Universal Records, Shotguns and Canned Goods featuring platinum selling B.Stille of the Grammy nominated group, Nappy Roots, is out now online and on FM radio.

Michael is working with Ghostface from the Wu Tang Clan in the studio now.
