Final Two Second Empire Grand-Prix Fall Races in December

Raleigh, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/03/2010 -- The Second Empire Grand-Prix (http://www.secondempireseries.com) announces the final two fall races—The Jingle Bell Run (http://www.jinglebellrunraleigh.kintera.org) on December 4 and the St. Michael Jolly Elf Run (http://tinyurl.com/JollyElfRun) on December 11. Both are USATF-sanctioned races.

“With the renovations complete on Hillsborough St., The Jingle Bell Run should be a great competitive race,” says Kim Reynolds, restaurant owner and founder of the Grand-Prix. “I also look forward to the Jolly Elf Run. A change from the traditional road race, the Bond Park trails wind through wooded areas and are a joy to run.”
Derrin Pierret maintains the fall-series point lead with 4,793 after the first five races. The female point leader is Kimberly Bowler with 4,617. Participants can track their point totals at results.active.com.

The 2011 spring series is fast approaching. It includes eight fundraising runs and walks that support nonprofits in the community. The first race is the Run For Young on January 8. To encourage participation, prizes are awarded after each series at a luncheon held at the Second Empire Restaurant and Tavern. The top point earners in each age group as well as the top five men’s and women’s overall point earners receive recognition.

To qualify for prizes and attend the award luncheon, participants must meet all three of the following requirements:

1.Participate in at least six of the eight Grand-Prix races for the series
2.Register as a competitive runner for each qualifying race
3.Be one of the top three point earners in your age/gender group

Additionally, anyone who participates in at least seven of the eight races in the series and registers as a competitive runner for each qualifying race will be invited to attend the award luncheon. To register for any of the Grand-Prix races, visit http://www.secondempireseries.com.

About Second Empire Grand-Prix
Born from the Second Empire 5K Classic, the Grand-Prix is the inspiration of Raleigh entrepreneurs Kim Reynolds and husband Rod Garnas along with Inside-Out Sports owner Cid Cardoso. In its eighth year, the Grand-Prix provides a fun way for competitive and non-competitive runners to give back to the community. Individual races pool a small portion of their operational funds along with Grand-Prix sponsors to cover series expenses. The combined effort has provided races with increased visibility and attendance while decreasing operational costs. This savings can directly translate to larger proceeds going to the benefiting charities. 2010 sponsors include: Second Empire Restaurant and Tavern, Brooks, Inside-Out Sports, American Express, Articulon, Midtown Magazine, MYLAPS sports timing, Henry Wurst, Inc. Michael Law MD—Blue Water Spa and Endurance Magazine. For more information, visit http://www.secondempireseries.com.
