The job market remains tight in most part of the country, there are thousands of openings which are not advertised in newspapers and other traditional sources of job hunting.
Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/09/2011 -- The latest jobs report from payroll processor ADP shows that the economy added 187,000 private sector nonfarm jobs in January.
According to ADP’s figures, the service sector accounted for 166,000 jobs and manufacturing accounted for the remaining 21,000 jobs.
The combined figures for December and January showed that the average for two months was 217,000 jobs. For the period of December 2009 and January 2010, the figure was just 52,000 jobs created.
There were also layoffs of over 38,000 positions in the private sector, an increase of 20 percent compared to December. This data is from placement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.
ADP’s data differs vastly from the official labor report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That report will be released this Friday and economists surveyed by MarketWatch expect it to show a gain of around 140,000 jobs. The unemployment rate is expected to be 9.5 percent.
Hound, a job search engine, has also found more jobs being listed on employer websites. “A lot of small employers are not able to afford posting on job boards so they just list their openings on their sites. So the number of available openings is probably underestimated” says A. Harrison Barnes, CEO of Hound. Hound has been able to find around 138,000 jobs from employer sites in the last seven days.
