E-verify Bill Touted As Solution to Solve America’s Unemployment Problem, Employmentcrossing Finds 390,000 Jobs

Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/21/2011 -- Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) has come up with a bill that he and his supporters are saying is a big step towards solving the nation’s unemployment problem.

Lamar Smith’s solution is in the bill that he has proposed - Legal Workforce Act (H.R. 2164). If the bill is passed it will make it mandatory for all American employers to use the E-Verify system on all current and new employees that they hire. As of now, the E-Verify system is optional for employers, but Smith sees the system as an opportunity to expunge all the illegal aliens in the workforce.

Smith says that with unemployment at 9% the jobs are scare and there are seven million illegal workers in the country. The jobs that these illegal workers are doing should go to legal workers.

E-Verify was created in 1996. It gives employers the option of electronically verifying that their new employees are legally authorized to work in the country. The program can quickly confirm 99.5% of the people who are legally eligible for work. It does this by checking the Social Security numbers of these employees against the ones stored in the databases of the Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security.

EmploymentCrossing, a job aggregator site, has been able to find over 389,000 jobs in the last seven days. The sectors with the most jobs on EmploymentCrossing are healthcare (68,000+), managerial (68,000+), information technology (47,000+), and retail (34,000+).
